ECC volleyball fights for win over MCC

The Ellsworth Community College volleyball team fought hard on Monday, Oct. 14, against Marshalltown Community College, taking the win in five sets. Every set the teams played was close, and the final score of the 5th game was a narrow 22-20 for the Panthers.

MCC came out on top for the first game with a 25-22 win over the Panthers but ECC didn't take the loss lying down. The Panthers came back on top the next two games with solid a solid 25-15 score on both games. At that point MCC didn't give up, coming back to win the 4th game 25-20 and taking the set to the 5th game, where the Panthers came out ahead 22-20.

"We fought hard with a lot of pride against Marshalltown," commented ECC Head Volleyball Coach Ashley Clark. "We also, for the first time all year, had a really solid blocking night from everyone in the front row."

The Panthers were led by Mary Goergen with 16 kills, 16 digs, 6 aces and 1 total block. Allison Kuennen and Tiffany Jacobson both chipped in 9 kills a piece; Kuennen also had 2.5 total blocks and Jacobson had 3 total blocks. Carlin Whelpley led the defense with 15 digs and an ace, and Paola Soto had 10 digs and 3 aces.

The Panthers will host Southeastern on Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 7 pm.
