Title: Assistant Softball Coach

Scott O'Brien, a former head softball coach at Ellsworth CC, has returned to ECC where he will serve as pitching coach for the 2024 spring season.  O'Brien served as the Panthers' head coach from 2005 to 2008.

The Ellsworth assistant coach has a lengthy and sparkling resume as a softball player and coach and has been successful at every position he has held over five decades of softball experience.

O'Brien began coaching softball at the high school level in 1999 and coached at AGWSR for 19 years, compiling 410 wins in his career.  He is a six-time North Iowa Cedar League West coach of the year and was the Iowa Class 1A coach of the year in 2015 when he led AGWSR to a state title.  His squad also finished second in the state tourney in 2018 and was third at state in both 2013 and 2014.  O'Brien also coached the AGWSR baseball team for three seasons.  The veteran coach had numerous all-state players as well as dozens of players who went on to play at the collegiate level.

O'Brien started playing fastpitch softball for Geneva in 1974 and won five state titles and racked up over 400 victories in men's fastpitch softball.  He was named to the all-tournament and all-American teams nine times in men's national master's division play and is still an active softball player, nearly 50 years after starting his playing career in Geneva.
