IOWA FALLS, IOWA -- Kirkwood CC scored at least one run in each of the first 6 innings and cruised to a 19-4 victory against Ellsworth CC Thursday afternoon at Cadet Field.
The Eagles took a 6-0 lead after a half inning and went on top 12-2 after 2 1/2 innings on the way to the win. KCC's Joe Simpson led the charge with 3 home runs.
Javier Melendez slammed a 2-run homer to account for half of the Panthers' runs and his round-tripper was one of only 3 hits on the day for ECC. Nick Chasey and Sergio Natera had the other two. Zed Wede scored twice.
Ellsworth used 4 pitchers with starter Jason Moist taking the loss. Sophomore Memphis Moore made his first appearance on the mound this spring and allowed just one run in his 2-inning stint.
The Panthers will host Southeastern CC in a 3-game series this weekend with a pair of contests on Saturday and one Sunday.
