Vega's first season cut short

First year head coach Sam Vega did not get to complete his inaugural spring at the helm of the Ellsworth Community College baseball team.

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) announced on Monday that the spring sports seasons would be canceled. At the time of the announcement, the Panthers were 4-16 with two wins over Southwestern Community College. ECC was on a six game skid before the season was called.

Offensively, Tommy Auth had a .372 batting average with 14 runs, 16 hits, three triples, three home runs and 13 RBI. Marino Pugnetti was hitting .313 with 14 runs, 20 hits, two doubles, two triples, two dingers and 10 RBI.

Though the team and coaching staff is disappointed in not being able to complete the season, they are already preparing for 2021.

"That's all we can do is move forward. The season is over and we are not going to get it back," Vega said.
