Panthers End Streak With Win at Wartburg

WAVERLY, IOWA -- The Ellsworth volleyball team put an end to a 7-match losing streak and avenged an earlier loss to the Wartburg College JV with a 3-1 victory on Monday night.  The two squads divided the first 2 sets, ECC winning 25-16 and Wartburg JV 28-26 before the Panthers finished off the match with 25-21 and 25-19 decisions in the next 2 sets.

Ellsworth established a new season-high with 54 kills and had 87 digs, the 2nd-highest total of the year.  Four ECC players had 8 or more kills and five were in double-figures in digs.  The Panthers recorded double-digit totals in kills in all 4 sets.

Faith Lobo and Audrey Melson led with 14 kills each, and Melson hit .333 for the match.  Katie Winter added 9 kills and Yanilette Diaz 8.  Alondra Acevedo was tops in digs with 21.  Dallymar Panell Diaz had 16, Peyton Parker and Nuria Bravo Santos 14 apiece and Jada Smith 12.

Bravo Santos had 41 assists and served 4 aces, the same number as Dallymar Panell Diaz.  Winter was in on 4 blocks.

ECC will try to make it back-to-back wins when they play at Northeast (Neb.) CC on Wednesday night.
