Ellsworth Volleyball Drops 4 at NIACC

MASON CITY, IOWA -- The ECC volleyball team couldn't get a victory at a tournament hosted by NIACC, losing matches to 2 nationally-rated teams and 2 more to ICCAC foes.  On Friday, the Panthers were upended by DMACC 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-13) and Iowa Lakes 3-1 (25-17, 25-9, 20-25, 25-12).  A ranked Rock Valley (Ill.) squad defeated ECC 3-1 (25-11, 22-25, 25-9, 25-17) on Saturday before Ellsworth lost 3-2 (20-25, 25-18, 25-23, 22-25, 15-12) to NIACC for the 2nd time this season.

Audrey Melson paced the Panthers in the kills in the DMACC match, slamming 9.  Setter Nuria Bravo Santos picked up 19 assists and was one of 2 Panthers with a team-high 11 digs, the same number as Alondra Acevedo.  Acevedo and Jada Smith both served 2 aces.

ECC only managed 17 kills against Iowa Lakes, a season low.  Faith Lobo had 7 of them.  Bravo Santos recorded 13 assists and 12 digs.  Acevedo led with 15 digs.  Dallymar Panell Diaz and Bravo Santos served up 2 aces apiece.

In the match with Rock Valley, Melson was credited with 10 kills.  Acevedo topped ECC with 14 digs and Peyton Parker had 11.  Bravo Santos had 17 assists and Diaz and Parker each served 2 aces.

The final match of the weekend went down to the final set, with NIACC prevailing 15-12.  The tough loss for ECC featured their most kills in a match this season (53) and the 3rd-highest number of digs (79).  Acevedo had her 7th consecutive match with double-digit digs, leading the Panthers with 26.  Smith had 13, Bravo Santos 12, Diaz 11 and Parker 10.  At the net, Melson slammed 15 kills, Katie Winter 11 and Lobo 10.  Winter had 4 blocks and Bravo Santos recorded 43 assists and 5 ace serves.

Ellsworth plays host to Southeastern CC on Wednesday night at Dittmer Gymnasium.
