Ellsworth Comes Back to Knock Off Dakota County

IOWA FALLS, IOWA -- The ECC volleyball team climbed out of a 2-1 hole after 3 sets to defeat Dakota County Technical College on Thursday night at Dittmer Gym.  The Panthers evened the match with a 25-19 decision in set 4, then pulled out the final set, 15-9, to snap a 5-match losing streak.  Ellsworth won the opening set, 25-15, before dropping the next 2, 25-22 and 25-23.  

ECC was bolstered in its comeback with some outstanding defense, chalking up 113 digs, 27 more than the previous season high.  Six different Panthers had double-digit totals in digs, led by Alondra Acevedo's 30.  Jada Smith added 22 and Nuria Bravo Santos 21.  Yanilette Diaz recorded 11 digs as did Peyton Parker while Faith Lobo chipped in 10.

Yanilette Diaz led the attack with 17 kills and was aided by Lobo with 12 and Audrey Melson with 9.  The Panthers served 13 aces, 4 of them by Dallymar Panell Diaz and 3 by Lobo.  Setter Bravo Santos had 39 assists.

Ellsworth will take on Iowa Lakes next Wednesday at home.
