IOWA FALLS, IOWA -- The ECC volleyball team had their home opener spoiled when NIACC overcame a 2-1 deficit to knock off the Panthers at Dittmer Gym on Wednesday night. In what was also the ICCAC opener for Ellsworth, they dropped the first set to the Trojans, 25-20, then regrouped to win the next two sets, 26-24 and 25-16, before NIACC closed out the match with wins in sets four and five, 25-17 and 15-6.
ECC led early in the opening set but a pair of 5-point runs allowed NIACC to pull out the victory.
The Trojans used a couple of spurts to tie set two at 17-all and 24-all. The Panthers prevailed by claiming the next two points, ending the set with a service ace from Nuria Bravo Santos.
The third set was the best of the night for Ellsworth, the Panthers cruising to a the 25-16 win.
But NIACC came back from being down a set, closing things out with a good performance in the deciding set.
With a season record of 3-4, ECC hosts Minnesota West at Dittmer Gym on Friday night.
