Zeth Strejc Wins Title at Central

PELLA, IOWA -- Ellsworth freshman Zeth Strejc used two big decisions to win a title in the Silver division at the Central Under Armour Invitational at Central College on Saturday.  Strejc, one of 9 Panthers to compete in the meet, won his opening match 11-2 and then posted a 19-3 technical fall decision in his next bout to take the crown in the Silver 133 weight class.

ECC had two wrestlers make it to the finals in their weight class:  Mirzo Khayitov, wrestling in the Gold 165 class, won an 8-6 overtime decision, rolled to a 21-2 victory, and pinned his semifinal opponent in 1:56, before dropping a 6-5 match to NIACC's Christian Minto, ranked No. 1 in the NJCAA.

Diego Isiordia also finished 2nd.  He pinned his first opponent, then won a 9-5 decision, before dropping the championship match, 6-4, in the Silver 157 division.

Two other ECC wrestlers were 3rd in the Silver division:  Eddy Ndayikengurukiye at 149 and Marcus Hester at 285.  Hester won by fall to finish 3rd.

In addition to Mirzo, four Panthers wrestled in the Gold division.  Ryan Graves lost twice at 141, Ethan Miller was decisioned twice at 184, Isaiah Laguna pinned his first opponent at 197 before dropping his next two matches, and Brennan Davis was defeated twice at 285.

Wrestlers from 14 different colleges took part in the meet.

The Ellsworth grapplers will go to Miami, OK, next weekend for the National Duals with wrestling on Friday at Saturday at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M.
