ECC Wrestlers Win Opener

ESTHERVILLE, IOWA -- The Ellsworth CC wrestling team got its 2021-22 season off on the right foot Wednesday night with a 31-23 victory against Iowa Lakes CC, giving ECC's Tyson Springer his first dual meet win as Panthers' head coach.  Ellsworth, tied for 20th in the NJCAA preseason poll, won four matches, three of them bonus-point wins, and benefited from a pair of forfeits to prevail against the 16th-ranked Lakers.

The meet highlights for the Panthers included pins by Kaden Karns at 125 pounds and Ethan Miller at 165, a major decision by Diego Isiordia at 157 and a 9-3 victory from returning All-American Nate Lendt at 149.  Those results coupled with forfeit victories for Ryan Graves and Mirzo Khaitov allowed the Panthers to earn the win in their initial dual of the year.

Next up for Ellsworth is a trip to Southeast Polk HS on Saturday for the Grand View Open.  Wrestling begins at 9 am.  ECC will wrestle at Indian Hills CC in Centerville Nov. 17.
