CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA -- Ellsworth saw its season come to a close Saturday afternoon when the Panthers lost to Kirkwood CC, 78-35, in a Region XI-A contest at Johnson Hall.
The Panthers struggled to score against the top team in the conference and the second-ranked team in the nation. Their 35 points were a season-low total as were the 13 made field goals and 27.7 percent shooting percentage. ECC managed to hit only 2-of-21 3-pointers. Kirkwood didn't shoot a whole lot better than Ellsworth -- only 33.8 percent -- but they connected on 9 3s and 17-of-22 free throws and committed only 6 turnovers to ECC's 28, 11 of those coming in the opening quarter.
The Panthers didn't have anyone in double figures. Taylor Ross led them with 9 points and Favour Nmecha Anyaele added 8. Ross pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds and Anyaele blocked 3 shots.
ECC ends the year with an overall record of 11-19.
