Panther Softball Earns 2 Wins

ROCHESTER, MINNESOTA -- The Ellsworth softball team traveled north on Friday and notched a pair of wins, beating Rochester CTC, 10-9, and St. Mary's (MN) junior varsity, 8-4, at the RCTC Dome.

The games featured complete game pitching performances by ECC's Angelica Agro and Taryn Cory and timely hitting by the Panthers, who had 27 hits in the 2 contests.

Game one, against RCTC, was tied 4-4 after an inning and a half and 8-8 after 3 1/2 innings.  ECC pushed across single runs in the 5th and 6th and held off the hosts after a solo homer in the top of the 7th.

In a 15-hit attack for Ellsworth, Allison Paulsen had 3, and Emma Gordon, Taryn Petty, Lilea Prahm, Katelynn Hursh and Tary Cory each had 2.  Elli Han, Petty, Cory and Paulsen all doubled and Maddy Harding and Hursh had triples.  Gordon, Petty, Prahm and Cory scored twice each and Han, Hursh, Cory and Paulsen all knocked in 2 runs.  Gracie Pierce had the game-winning RBI, scoring Gordon with a groundout in the 6th.  Agro struck out 6 in getting the win in the circle.

The Panthers' 5-run 2nd inning was the difference in the second game.  There were a dozen hits, 3 by Pierce, who also scored twice and drove in 2 runs.  Prahm collected 2 hits and 4 RBIs.  Gordon stroked 2 hits and scored 2 times.  Cory scattered 10 hits and notched the pitching victory.

Ellsworth is slated to play a doubleheader against the Mt. Mercy JV on Monday afternoon.
