Ellsworth Softball Loses Twice at Indian Hills

OTTUMWA, IOWA -- The Ellsworth softball team used a pair of home runs to take an early lead in the nightcap of Tuesday's doubleheader at Indian Hills, but the home team battled back to win that game and complete a sweep of the twinbill.  Indian Hills hit four homers of their own in game two in coming back for the victory.  IHCC won the opener, 4-0, and the second game, 11-4.

The Panthers' offense was held in check in the first game, limited to just two hits -- a single by Nevaeh Dice and a double by Meghan Danielson.  Two of Indian Hills' 4 runs came on bases-loaded walks.  Delaney Vetter worked 5 2/3 innings in the circle for ECC and struck out 9 while permitting 6 hits.  Asa Kesinger got the final out in the 6th.

Danielson got the scoring started in the second contest with a 2-run single that plated Breanna Howard and Dice in the 2nd inning.  In the 3rd, Grace Gordon slammed a solo home run and Gintare Paskocimaite added another long ball to put ECC on top, 4-0.  Indian Hills began its comeback with a 2-run homer in the bottom of the 3rd and slugged 2 more home runs, including a tie-breaking 3-run shot in the 4th that snapped a 4-4 deadlock.  Lauren Brennan went the first 5 innings for Ellsworth and Cheyanne Collins replaced her in the 6th.  Dice, Howard and Danielson each had 2 hits for the Panthers.

ECC goes to Cedar Rapids this weekend for a 4-game series with Kirkwood CC.  There will be two matchups both Saturday and Sunday.
