ECC Softball Swept in Ottumwa

OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Ellsworth and Indian Hills played a four-game softball series with two days in between doubleheaders waiting for favorable weather conditions.  The Warriors took all four contests from ECC, 9-1 and 8-1 on Friday, and 11-3 and 5-2 on Monday.

Game one saw IHCC score three times in the 2nd inning and five more in the 4th.  Ally Sparks supplied the lone run for the Panthers in the 4th inning with her 4th homer of the spring.  Chelsea Buck's single was the only other hit for ECC.  Delaney Vetter took the loss in the circle.

The Panthers were held to one run in the nightcap, when Kailey Becker singled home Mya Mathes.  Mathes and Maggie Braniff supplied the other hits.  Sparks went the distance and absorbed the defeat.

When the series resumed Monday, Indian Hills got off to a fast start with a six-run 1st inning and went on to the victory.  The ECC offense came from a pair of doubles by Mathes and singles by Gintare Paskocimaite, Buck and Becker.  Meghan Danielson, Mathes and Becker each scored a run.  The Panthers didn't provide much support for pitcher Chloe Roberts, committing seven errors that led to seven unearned runs.

Back-to-back home runs by Becker and Roberts in the 7th inning of the series finale got Ellsworth on the scoreboard.  Cheyanne Collins had a two-hit game and Gwen Hovorka, Danielson and Mathes also had hits.  Vetter started and was replaced in the circle by Collins in the 6th inning.

ECC (12-16) will host Kirkwood CC in a twinbill Wednesday and then play a pair of games in Cedar Rapids against the Mt. Mercy JV on Thursday.
