ECC Offense Shut Down By MCC

IOWA FALLS, IOWA -- On a night when both teams had a hard time generating much offense, Marshalltown CC held Ellsworth to just 18 2nd-half points and won the only meeting of the season between the two IVCCD foes, 48-41, Tuesday night at Dittmer Gymnasium.

The game was knotted at 23-all at halftime, but ECC managed just 18 points over the final 20 minutes in dropping their 5th game of the year to go with 11 wins.

The shooting percentages reflected the two teams' struggles -- Ellsworth made only 29 percent of its field goal tries and hit just 2-of-25 3-point attempts while Marshalltown connected on 36.4 percent from the floor and only 3-of-16 3s.  The Panthers went to the foul line only 8 times, making 3, and its starters shot only 3 FTs.  The Panthers forced the visitors into 18 turnovers, but couldn't turn enough of those mistakes into points.

Rich Ashu was the lone ECC player in double figures scoring 10 points.  Junior Bodden had 8 and nobody else scored more than 6.

The Panthers will take a break from game action and return to play DMACC at home on Jan. 5.
