Panthers Nab First Football Win

DES MOINES, IOWA -- The Ellsworth Panthers notched their first win of the fall Sunday when they posted a 35-10 win against the Grand View University junior varsity squad.

ECC got three touchdown passes from Sean Stephens and a rushing TD from David Hall in the victory.  Tate Lauer was on the receiving end of two of the scoring throws and Aghogho Eyafe reeled in a scoring toss and nabbed 6 passes.  The Panthers completed 12-of-19 passes for 157 yards and ran for 140 yards on 33 attempts.  Jake Vaughn was a perfect 5-for-5 in extra point tries.

All-American defensive back Jonathan Forson had an interception which he returned for 41 yards. Malcolm Bryant had a game that earned him the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference defensive player of the week honor.  Bryant had five tackles and three sacks, one of which was a strip sack that was recovered in the end zone by De'alo McGeeJosaphat Tamatekou helped the defensive effort with 2 1/2 tackles for loss.

Ellsworth will go on the road for their next two games: at Iowa Western next Saturday and at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M on Oct. 2.  The next home contest will be Oct. 9 against Iowa Central.
