Another Day, Another 10 Homers as Panthers Blast MCC

IOWA FALLS, IOWA -- Ellsworth CC used a pair of 2-run home runs to take the opener, then whacked 8 more homers in the nightcap to complete a sweep of Marshalltown CC on Friday, winning 4-1 and 23-11.

Jean Melean homered with a man on in the 1st inning of game one and Kristian Crespo followed suit with a 2-run blast in the 2nd for all the ECC scoring in the game one victory.  Melean had a single and triple to go along with his roundtripper.  Derihan Suero had another solid outing for the Panthers, a complete-game 4-hitter with 2 walks and 5 Ks.

The 2nd game was the 3rd time in the past week that Ellsworth had at least 8 homers in a game and it was the 2nd game this week that Jose Valentin had 3 long balls in one game.  In addition to Valentin's 3 dingers, Sergio Natera went deep twice and Tanner Short, Nick Chasey and Jose Roche also left the yard for the Panthers.  They have totaled 50 home runs for the season, 39 of them in the last 8 games and 28 over the past 5 contests.

The 23 hits in the 2nd game were a season-best for ECC, who scored in every inning but the 3rd and erupted for 8 runs in the 6th.  Short and Valentin each had 4 hits, Crespo picked up 3, and there were 2-hit games by Natera, Melean, Dariel Colon, Chasey, Daviel Camacho and Roche.  Short scored 4 times and Valentin and Roche 3 apiece.  Valentin drove in 8 runs with his trio of HRs, Natera had 4 RBIs and Roche 3.  Short, Valentin, Colon and Chasey all doubled and Melean tripled.

Kaden Stewart notched the win in relief of starter Jaden Morris, going 2 innings with 3 strikeouts.  Will Johnson had a 1-2-3 7th inning with a pair of Ks.

The Panthers will conclude the series with Marshalltown with a single game on Saturday.
