Big Inning Finishes MCC Sweep of Ellsworth

MARSHALLTOWN, IOWA -- Marshalltown CC used a 9-run 7th inning to overtake Ellsworth CC and defeat the Panthers, 14-7, in the 2nd game of a Thursday doubleheader.  ECC dropped the first game, 6-3.

Ellsworth plated 4 runs in the top of the 1st to grab control early in game two.  MCC came back to tie the score at 4-all, before ECC pushed across a run in the 5th and 2 more in the 6th to go up, 7-4.  The home team then batted around in their big 7th inning, the scoring starting with back-to-back bases-loaded walks.  Ellsworth had 11 hits, but only one went for extra bases.  Edgar Andujar had 3 of the hits and Zeb Wede and Jose Valentin had two apiece.  Wede and Bryce Hall scored two runs each and Valentin knocked in two.  The other RBIs came from Wede, Elio Narvaez, Hall, Nick Chasey and Andujar.

Marshalltown scored 2 runs in the 1st and 4th innings of the opener against ECC starter Narvaez and made them stand up in the victory.  The Panthers notched 5 hits -- singles by Isaac Boley and Hall, doubles from Wede and Valentin and a Javier Melendez solo home run.  Hall and Valentin got the other RBIs and Wede and Hall also scored.  Narvaez went the first 5 innings and struck out seven while permitting only 6 hits.  Ethan Whitham threw a scoreless inning in relief.

The Panthers are slated to play a 4-game series at Iowa Lakes this weekend, with 2 games Saturday and Sunday.
