Ellsworth Loses Four to Indian Hills

IOWA FALLS, IOWA -- The Ellsworth baseball team ran into a red-hot Indian Hills squad over the weekend and lost all four games at Cadet Field.  IHCC took the Friday contests by scores of 8-3 and 9-1 and followed with 7-1 and 11-5 victories Saturday.

Indian Hills got off to a 4-1 lead after two innings of Friday's opener and that kiind of set the tone for the series.  Victor Lara and Carlos Aranda each had two hits in the game for the Panthers and Javier Melendez, Trey Morris, Ybrahim Quevedo, Zeb Wede and TJ Truso also had hits.  Melendez and Morris doubled.  Gavin Busby went 6 1/3 innings as the ECC starting pitcher and Jason Moist got the final outs in the 7th.

The second game was a nine-inning affair and IHCC got six of their runs in the last two innings.  Charlie Jaeger pitched into the 8th for Ellsworth and Matt Nolan, Simon Victoriano and Broderick Bittle combined for the last four outs.  ECC hits were picked up by Melendez, Lara, Aranda, Isaac Boley, Jacoby Endreas and Ryan Boothe, all with singles, and Bryce Hall with a double for the lone extra-base hit.

Saturday's first game saw ECC limited to a solo home run by Aranda, his 4th of the spring, for their only tally.  The other hits were a single by Aranda and Truso's double.  Elio Narvaez started on the mound and went five innings.  Moist finished up with two shutout frames.  Three Panthers errors contributed to six unearned runs.

ECC committed six errors in the series finale, leading to seven more unearned runs.  The Panthers had gotten off to a quick 4-0 lead after one inning, but Indian Hills countered with five runs in the 2nd.  The score was 7-5 heading into the top of the 9th, before IHCC was able to put the game away with a four-spot.  Quevedo swatted his 3rd homer of the year, a two-run blow, in the 1st inning.  Aranda and Fabian Dumey both singled twice and Hall had a couple of doubles.  Zach Carlsen threw five innings as the starter.  Isaac Rohde provided three solid innings of relief work, allowing only two hits and no runs with four Ks.

The Panthers will try to get back on track when they go to Cedar Rapids for a DH with Kirkwood CC on Wednesday.
