Athletic Trainers

Shelby Wilcox LAT, ATC --

Shelby studied at Ellsworth from 2012-2013, from there she transferred to the University of Northern Iowa where she was an Athletic Training student from 2014 until 2017 when she graduated with her Bachelor of Science Degree in Athletic Training. Before joining Ellsworth, Shelby worked as an Athletic Trainer for Welia Health (formerly FirstLight Health System). She was an Athletic Trainer at two high schools and worked in a clinic with a sports medicine physician from August 2017 until March of 2019. Shelby started working as an Athletic Trainer for Ellsworth in March of 2019.

Shelby is married to Cooper, and they have two dogs named Mauer and Pedroia. Shelby enjoys lifting, going to baseball games, watching Chiefs football games with her family, kayaking, and traveling. Lyndi Rees LAT, ATC -- 

Lyndi studied at Central Methodist University from 2005 until 2009 when she graduated with her Bachelor of Science Degree in Athletic Training. Lyndi also studied at Lindenwood University from 2009 until 2011 when she graduated with her Master of Arts in Education. Before joining Ellsworth, Lyndi was a graduate assistant at Lindenwood University from 2009-2011. From there, Lyndi worked as an Assistant Athletic Trainer for Missouri Valley College from 2011-2014, Assistant Athletic Trainer at Morehead State University from 2014-2016, and an Assistant Athletic Trainer at North Central College from 2016-2018. She then became the Director of Sports Medicine at MidAmerica Nazarene University from 2018-2021, and Manager of Athletic Training at Olathe Medical Center/Johnson County Orthopedics from 2021-2022.

Lyndi is married to Head Women’s Basketball Coach, Justin Rees. They have a son, Justin Jr., who loves sports. Lyndi enjoys spending time with her family and going on vacations. Her email is Lyndi.Rees@iavalley.edu and her primary sports contacts are volleyball, M/W basketball, and softball.

 

ACADEMIC PROGRAM 

Ellsworth Community College has an Athletic Training Associate in Arts (AA) degree program, taught by Shawna Forsyth, MSEd, ATC, LAT. Students in the program receive classroom training as well as observing athletic training practices and treatments performed by Forsyth, a certified athletic trainer.

Forsyth and her students work regular training room hours and attend many team practices and all games to provide athletic training services to ECC student-athletes and their opponents as needed.

Athletic Training Instructor

Shawna Forsyth MSEd, ATC/L -- Shawna joined Ellsworth Community College in 2003 working as the Head Athletic Trainer and Director of the Athletic Training Program.

A native of Maxwell, Iowa, Forsyth received her bachelor of science degree from Central College (Pella) in 1999. Following graduation, she worked as an athletic training intern for Florida Southern College. From 2000-2002, she worked directly with an Orthopedic Physician in Lakeland, Florida. Forsyth then completed her master's degree in Education from Northern Illinois University while working as a graduate assistant.
