Panther softball players Paskocimaite and Payne named Athlete of the Week

The season may be officially over, but Panther softball had not only one but two players recognized by the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) as Athletes of the Week.  Freshman Gintare Paskocimaite, a shortstop from Lithuania, and sophomore Katy Payne, a pitcher from Lexington, MO, each received this distinction.

Ellsworth went down to Kansas City to face Metropolitan and Kansas City Kansas. The Panthers were led by Paskocimaite. In four games, Paskocimaite went six for 13 with a double, two home runs and four RBI. With those two home runs, she positioned herself tied for ninth place in NJCAA Division II Softball with seven homers in the first half of the season. In 11 games, Paskocimaite was batting .563 with seven homers, 15 RBI and 10 runs scored.

Payne did much of the work in the circle for the Panthers against Metropolitan and Kansas City Kansas. She logged 13 innings in two appearances, picking up the win in one of the two games. In all, she gave up four earned runs on 11 hits and six walks. Payne was off to a solid 2020 before it abruptly came to an end with the cancelation of all NJCAA spring sports. She was 3-2 in five appearances. She had an ERA of 2.26 in 31 innings pitched. All three Panther wins in 2020 were awarded to Payne.
