Ellsworth Men Knocked Off at Kirkwood

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA -- A season-low 26 percent field-goal shooting night wounded the ECC men's basketball team in a 68-50 loss at Kirkwood CC Wednesday night in Johnson Hall.  The Panthers trailed 31-10 at halftime and had only three baskets in the opening 20 minutes, none of them by Adam Jackson, the reigning ICCAC Player of the Week, who had scored 39 points the last time out against Southwestern CC.  Jackson wound up with a game-high 23 points, but connected on just 5-of-18 shots from the field.  He did make all 10 of his free throw tries and had four steals.

After their show start, the Panthers managed to mount a comeback in the second half, slicing the deficit to 37-27.  Chris Burnell of Kirkwood pumped in seven straight points with the KCC lead at 10 to push the margin out to 44-27 and ECC couldn't get closer than 15 the rest of the way.

Jackson's 23 points kept alive his streak of scoring in double-figures in every game he's played this season.  No one else for ECC had more than seven points, however.  Tony Alexander, Junior Bodden and Chay Guen each had five rebounds and VJ Wilmington had three assists.

The Panthers will face Southeastern CC Saturday afternoon at home in a 3:00 start.
