ECC falls two places with loss

Ellsworth Community College slipped to the seventh seed with two games left in the regular season.

On Wednesday, the Panthers hosted No. 11 Kirkwood Community College and fell by an 84-71 final.

ECC had no answer for Luke Appel, who had 19 points at the half and finished the game with 38-points and 13 rebounds.

Two ties and five lead changes in the first half, the Eagles opened the second half on a 13-3 run to break open the game with a 53-37 advantage and continued to build off that.

Five Panthers finished in double figures, led by Adam Jackson with 17 off the bench.

ECC then traveled to Southwestern Community College on Saturday with the five seed on the line. It was the Spartans that came out on top, 82-76.

Early in the contest the Panthers held a lead but quickly SWCC went on a run and were ahead by 10 at the break (41-31).

ECC would get within three with six minutes left before the Spartans went on a 6-0 run to put the game away.

Three Panthers were in double digit scoring, led by Tony Eddy with 23.
