Ellsworth Baseball Swept at Iowa Western

COUNCIL BLUFFS, IOWA -- The nationally-ranked Iowa Western Reivers won all four games in a weekend ICCAC series with Ellsworth CC, beating the Panthers 9-3 and 11-3 on Saturday and 11-1 and 12-1 Sunday.

The series started slowly for the Panthers, who saw the home team break away to a 9-0 lead in game one before ECC pushed across two runs in the 6th and another one in the 7th.  Ellsworth actually outhit IWCC, 9-8, with the Panthers' Ybrahim Quevedo and Fabian Dumey each getting two hits.  TJ Truso and Dumey both had doubles.  Ellsworth got on the scoreboard when Quevedo singled home Trey Morris and Dumey doubled to score Aranda in the 6th inning.  Aranda's sacrifice fly plated Truso the next inning.  Zach Carlsen started the contest for ECC and went three innings.  Jose Torres and Simon Victoriano pitched in relief.

Game two on Saturday featured a pair of solo home runs by ECC's Bryce Hall.  He went deep in the 2nd and 4th innings and Zeb Wede had a 6th-inning RBI groundout to score Aranda.  The first five batters in the lineup for Ellsworth -- Truso, Victor Lara, Morris, Aranda and Quevedo -- had hits.  The Panthers used Gavin Busby, Broderick Bittle, Isaac Rohde and Miguel Baez on the mound and Busby, the starter, took the loss.

After ECC scored in the top of the 1st in Sunday's opener, Iowa Western reeled off the next 11 runs.  The Panthers' run came when Truso came in on a sac fly by Aranda.  Morris picked up a pair of hits and Truso, Lara and Ryan Boothe all had one.  Lara's was a double.  Panther pitchers in this game were starter Charlie Jaeger along with Baez and Ezequiel Balderas.  Jaeger fanned six in his 4 1/3 inninigs of work.

The Panthers were held to a single run in the nightcap -- Tate Walker crossed the plate on a single by Jake Kostenbauer in the 5th inning.  Morris, Aranda, Quevedo, Walker and Kostenbauer had a hit apiece.  Elio Narvaez and Cooper Johnson came on in relief of starting pitcher Jason Moist

Ellsworth, with an 8-10 season record, hosts Marshalltown CC in a doubleheader on Wednesday and then welcomes Iowa Lakes CC to town for twinbills next Saturday and Sunday.
