Pitching, Homers Lead to Baseball Victory

LAMONI, IOWA -- An oustanding pitching performance by Trey Morris, home runs by Carlos Aranda and Bryce Hall and a 14-hit attack allowed the Ellsworth baseball team to claim a 9-1 win over the Graceland JV Tuesday afternoon.  The victory was the third in the last four games for the Panthers, who scored single runs in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th innings and then had three-run innings in the 5th and 6th.

Freshman righthander Trey Morris had a very impressive start, going five innings and striking out 10 while permitting five hits and one walk.  The only run he gave up was unearned.  Jose Torres followed with two shutout frames and he struck out two.

Hall's homer was one of his three hits.  He also doubled and singled, scored twice and knocked in two runs.  Aranda also had a double and three RBIs.  Kainoa Torres picked up two RBIs and Zed Wede, Javier Melendez, Morris, Aranda and Ybrahim Quevedo had two-hit games.

Ellsworth goes to Creston this weekend for doubleheaders against Southwestern CC on Saturday and Sunday.
