ECC Baseball splits weekend series

Ellsworth Community College Panther baseball fell to Allen County Community College and Crowder Community College during their first two games Friday and defeated Allen County Community College in a double header on Saturday. 

During Friday's game ECC fell 5-2 against ACCC. Austin Edwards took the loss for ECC. He gave up five runs on three hits over four innings, striking out five. Reed Collins added a double along with RBI's from Brodie Smith and TJ Truso.

ECC lost 10-4 to Crowder CC Friday evening, despite out-hitting them. ECC had an early 1-0 lead on a Tyrese Mitchell RBI single scoring Blake Bergquist. In the third inning, Reed Collins got ECC back on the board with a solo home run. Crowder went on to score 9 unanswered runs to close out the game. Stuart Baruth took the loss on the mound for the Panthers.

During the first game against ACCC on Saturday, ECC's offense came out strong with a 11-6 win. ECC took the lead for good in the fourth inning on a Victor Lara RBI double. Lara and Michael Wallace led the Panther offense with three hits and two doubles each. Reed Collins and Marino Pugnetti added to two hits for ECC. Zach Carlsen got the win in relief allowing three hits over four innings and had four strike outs.

In the final game of the series, Ellsworth took the night cap 19-8. Tommy Auth got things started in the first inning with an RBI walk followed by a Tyrese Mitchell single that brought in two runs for an early 3-0 lead. In the third inning, Brodie Smith added a grand slam to make it a 7-3 game. In the fifth inning, Ellsworth got a solo run from Kainoa Torres and a three-run shot from Michael Wallace. Smith led the charge with three hits for the game, Collins and Mitchell added two hits a piece. Kobey Schlotman earned the win for the Panther on the mound going five innings and had nine strike outs. He only allowed one walk for the game.

Panthers will take on Nothern Oklahoma College in Enid, OK on March 8.
