Council Bluffs, Iowa -- The Ellsworth Community College volleyball team was given a tough task with a season-opening match at NJCAA Division I number-six ranked Iowa Western on Sunday. The host Reivers won in straight sets, beating the Panthers, 25-9, 25-9, 25-12.
Gabi Damiano and Jade Galligo led ECC at the net with four kills each. Setter Vitoria Kazanovski had 13 assists and a pair of ace serves. Kaitlyn Baer paced the Panthers with 11 digs and Damiano followed with eight.
Ellsworth has another rugged road test on Tuesday night when they go to Fort Dodge to take on Iowa Central CC, rated 7th in the first NJCAA Division II poll.
