Panther volleyball wins 3 over the weekend

Ellsworth Community College picked up three wins last weekend, including a big 2-0 weekend at the NIACC Tournament.

On Monday, Sept. 30 the Panthers hosted Wartburg College JV and won in three (25-18, 25-22 and 25-19). Monique Vanzin had a huge game with 14 kills. Kaitlyn Baer and Vitoria Kazanovski each added six. Defensively, Baer led with 11 digs and Vanzin and Mackenzie Pritchett added eight.

ECC was able to tally 12 serving aces, including four by Pritchett.

On Wednesday, Oct. 2 the Panthers hosted ICCAC foe Southeastern Community College and the Blackhawks won in four (25-12, 16-25, 25-15 and 25-21). ECC finished with 45 team kills, led by Vanzin with 18. Baer also had double figures with 10 hits. Kazanovski distributed 41 of the 45 assists. Baer tallied 20 digs, Vanzin had 12 and Jojo Keahey tallied 10.

On Friday, Oct. 4 the Panthers traveled to Boone for the DMACC Tournament and faced two highly ranked squads. No. 5 Johnson County defeated ECC 25-15, 25-15 and 25-17. In that match, the Panthers tallied just 17 kills. They were led by Baer with seven. Defensively, Baer had seven digs and Keahey 9.

Later in the day, ECC faced second-ranked Coffeyville Community College and lost 25-13, 25-9 and 25-12. Just three players had hits in that contest, led by Vanzin with nine. 

The Panthers then traveled to Mason City for the NIACC Tournament on Saturday and picked up two much needed victories. The first win came against Anoka-Ramsey.

In that three setter (25-15, 25-16, 25-15) ECC's hitters finished with 31 kills. Kazanovski distributed 28 assists throughout seven different players. Baer led with 10 and Vanzin finished with six. 

After dropping the first game against Dakota County, the Panthers came back and won in four (17-25, 25-23, 25-22 and 25-19). ECC had even more hits in that contest, tallying 38 kills. Vanzin led the squad with 15 and Baer was also in double figures with 12.
