ECC volleyball honors sophomores

The Ellsworth Community College volleyball team will honor their four sophomores at their last home game against Southwestern on Wednesday, Oct. 24. Sophomore Panthers include Jesenia Colbert, Jena Gerot, Alianna Holliday and Lillian Smith.

Colbert is an outside hitter for the Panthers from Houston, TX. She is averaging 2.87 kills per set, has 812 attacks and 183 digs for the season. "Jesenia is our energy on the team and dictates our level of energy," commented Head Coach Sara Jesse. "She is a smart vocal leader and wants the ball. She will leave a hole on the team for next year."

Gerot, is the Panther's setter and is from Morning Sun, IA. She has a .519 hitting percentage, 718 assists and 166 digs for the season. "Jena has done a good job of getting the ball where it needs to go and is a leader on the court," said Coach Jesse. "Her leadership will be missed for next year."

Holliday is a right side hitter from Hazleton, IA. This season she is averaging .24 kills per set, .24 digs per set and has 5 services aces. "Alianna is an overall good teammate. She is thrown into any mix during the game and whatever I ask, she will do. I appreciate her versatility on the team," said Coach Jesse.

Smith is a middle hitter from Atlanta, IA. She had 56 total attacks, 24.5 points and 16 blocks. "Lillian is the most improved on the team by far. She has made the most strides out of everyone and is always the hardest worker at practices and it shows," commented Coach Jesse.

ECC will be on the road Monday, Oct. 22 at Marshalltown Community College at 7 pm and then will finish off regular season with their home match against Southwestern on Wednesday, Oct. 24 at 7 pm.
