Panther volleyball falls in home opener

The Ellsworth Community College volleyball team played their first home match of the season last night taking on Hawkeye Community College. The Panthers lost in three games but stuck with Hawkeye for every one of them.

The first game was a close 25-21 loss and the second game was 25-18. The third game the Panthers made it really exciting coming back to tie it up at 25 after being down 24-21. They couldn't quite pull it out though and Hawkeye took the final match 27-25.

Jena Gerot (Morning Sun) led ECC in assists with 27. Gigi Olivo (Vega, Baja, Puerto Rico) led the team in digs with 25 and Jordynn Wesselink (Newton) had 11 kills while hitting .231 and adding 7 digs. Jesenia Colbert (Houston, TX) had 10 kills for ECC while hitting .241.

They will be at the Highland Tournament this weekend in Kansas for their next matches and will remain on the road not playing in Iowa Falls until Wed., Sept. 19.
