First signee for 2018 ECC volleyball

Ellsworth Community College volleyball concluded the 2017 season only a few weeks ago, but ECC Head Volleyball Coach Ashley Clark is already signing new players for the 2018 season.

ECC volleyball is proud to welcome Celeste Gaualofa Filoialii of Anchorage, AK. The first sport that Filoialii played was tennis while she was living in Hawaii. In 2007 (3rd grade), she moved to Alaska, where she discovered her love of volleyball…and snow. Her primary position is outside, but she also plays right side and defensive specialist.

When asked why she chose ECC, Filoialii said, "I chose Ellsworth because I like the way the team plays. I watched a short video of their game and saw that the team communicates and works together. Not only that, but as I was talking to Coach Clark on the phone I can tell that she doesn't just focus on one position for the girls but she teaches every position to all the girls. Plus its close to my family."

Filoialii has already started thinking about her goals while she is playing at ECC. "While attending Ellsworth I would like to become an even better volleyball player and also reach my goal of touching a basketball rim. I also want to excel in schooling and hopefully get a scholarship to play for a DI college."

Filoialii is homeschooled but played volleyball for Bartlett High School. They were second in state and first in regionals.

"I am very pleased to welcome Celeste to the Ellsworth Volleyball Family," says Coach Clark. "She is a utility player who will help our team in the front row, but she also has the ability to play some defense in the back row. Her overall character, personality, and determination to be successful will be a great fit for our program's culture and the ECC campus."
