Panther volleyball gets first Region win

The Ellsworth Community College volleyball team came out ready to play against Iowa Lakes Community College yesterday. The Panthers took the match to five sets and came out on top with their first regional win.

The Panthers took the first set with a 25-22 win, but dropped the next set 20-25. They fought back in the third set for a 25-16 victory but then lost in the fourth set by the same margin, 16-25. The Panthers won the final set by a resounding 15-7.

Nicole Nielsen (Waterloo, IA) led the Panthers with 17 kills and 21 digs. Jena Gerot (Wapello, IA) let the team in ace serves with 21, followed closely by Ashley Kraber (Prole, IA), who had 18; Kraber also had 25 digs for the night. Myriana Martinez (Puerto Rico) led all of ECC in digs, with 32.

The Panthers will be on the road for the next five games starting with a trip to a tournament in Rochester, MN, this Friday, Sept. 15.
