ECC volleyball pushes #11 Kirkwood

The Ellsworth Community College Panthers gave Kirkwood a challenge on Wednesday, Sept. 16. ECC won the first game against the Eagles 25-23. The first set was the only win for the Panthers, but they stuck with Kirkwood every game, losing the next three narrowly 25-23, 25-20 and 25-15.

"We played tough against a known good team, but we just couldn't stay on them enough to come out with the win in the end," commented Head Coach Ashley Clark.

Sophomore Mary Goergen led the team in stats with 17 kills, 8 digs and 6 aces. Other big contributors were Tiffany Jacobson and April Jones with 8 kills each, Carlin Whelpley with 24 digs, and Paola Soto with 12 digs.

This is the first time since 2011 that ECC has taken a set from Kirkwood.

The Panthers will be on the road for their next game against DMACC on Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 6:30 pm.
