ECC volleyball opens season against tough competition

The Ellsworth Community College volleyball team traveled to Ridgewater College in Minnesota this past weekend to open up the 2015 season. The team went 1-3 for the weekend, with two of the losses coming against currently ranked teams.

ECC opened the weekend against the two ranked teams, losing the first game in four sets against Ridgewater (25-23, 18-25, 19-25 and 23-25). The second game for the Panthers was against Central Lakes, and the Panthers lost again in four games: 18-25, 22-25, 25-19 and 17-25.

ECC then played Lake Region, winning in three sets 25-15, 25-23 and 25-18 and finished off the long weekend with a loss to Mayville State 23-25, 22-25 and 20-25.

"Both Ridgewater and Central Lakes are ranked right now so we played them tough," commented ECC Head Volleyball Coach Ashley Clark. "If we had an opportunity to play them again in a month, I think we would beat them both."

The Panthers will be on the road again Monday, Aug. 24, against Waldorf JV at 7 pm and will host their first game at home on Wednesday, Sept. 2, against NIACC at 7 pm.
