The #4 Ellsworth Community College wrestling team took down #5 Iowa Lakes Community College on Jan. 31 by a 29-22 margin.
The meet began with three forfeits, two for ECC and one for Iowa Lakes, and a loss at 141 pounds for Ellsworth, leaving the Panthers down 16-6 after the first four matchups. Steven Lawrence (157) started the comeback for the Panthers with a technical fall. ECC lost the 165 pound match but took the rest of the meet to end with a 29-22 victory.
Jordan Gundrum (174) won by fall; Anthony Collins (184) won by decision; Tim Young (197) won by fall, and Gary Whitaker (285) finished the night with an exciting match that went into extra time, where he won by sudden victory.
The Panthers will host the Regional Tournament on Sunday, Feb. 12, starting at 10 am.
