ECC wrestling wins big at Regional Duals

The Ellsworth Community College wrestling team went 4-0 in meets at the Regional Duals on Saturday, Jan. 24, in Mason City.

The Panthers first took on Itasca, winning 48-0. Five matches were won by forfeit with wins also coming to Wesley Petrick (141) with a 7-3 win; Marcus Thompson (149) by fall; Kevin Cooper (157) with a 7-1 win; R.J. Troye (184) with an injury default win; and Terry Martin (197) with a 14-6 win.

ECC continued its success with a 42-3 win over Rochester. They took another two wins by forfeit along with another 7 of 8 match wins. Said Kakhramanov (141) by fall; Cooper (149) with a 14-5 win; Sam Andresen (157) with a 14-1 win; Matthew Rodriguez-Kirkland (165) with 11-3 win; Sadarriss Patterson by fall; Matt Hurford (184) with 20-16 win; and Sharod Wilson (197) with a 5-2 in. 

Next the Panthers took down Northland with a 48-0 win. Another two forfeits helped out the team along with a perfect 8 for 8 match wins for the Panthers. DeShun Brown (125) 19-4 and Andresen 16-0 both won by technical fall. Marcus Graham (165) and Troy (184) both won by fall. The four other wins were by Kakhramanov (141) 11-3; Cooper (149) 7-3; Wilson (197) 12-6 and Matthew Kent (285) 13-0.

ECC finished the day with a win over Ridgewater with a 50-0 final score. Four more forfeits helped out ECC in this match up, too. Rodriguez-Kirkland (165) and Patterson (175) won their matches by technical fall with scores of 17-1 and 19-4. Devan Richter (184) also won by fall. Jacob Igartua (141) 14-9; Andresen (157) 9-2 and Terry Martin (285) 11-3 also took home wins.

The Panthers will travel to Fort Dodge for their next meet on Wednesday, Jan. 28, against Iowa Central at 7 pm.
