ECC's Da'Wayne Robertson commits to Minnesota State Mankato

Ellsworth Community College Panther wrestler Da'Wayne Robertson has committed to transfer to Minnesota State Mankato.

"I visited Minnesota State Mankato several times," commented Robertson. "I really felt a bond with the coaches there and you have to have a good coach in your corner when you are wrestling. I'm really looking forward to my next step in my college career."

Robertson has achieved great success while at ECC. He was name NJCAA All-American and placed 3rd in the nation. During the 2013-14 season he had an impressive record of 38-13, leading the NJCAA in victories. His career record at ECC is 59-30. Competing in several tournaments throughout the year, Robertson took home 2nd place the Loras Open, 4th place at the Iowa State Cyclone Open, 4th at Kaye Young Open, 5th at the University of Northern Iowa Open, 4th at Grand View Open and 2nd in the North Central Regionals. He was the 2013 North Central Regional Champion as well. During his season he accumulated 14 bonus point victories; 4 falls, 5 technical falls and 5 major decisions.

As well as his success on the mat, Robertson has excelled in his academic career at Ellsworth. He was named Academic All-Region with a 3.4 GPA, majoring in Engineering.

"Da'Wayne is someone that I truly feel blessed to have had the opportunity to coach," commented ECC Head Wresting Coach Cole Spree. "He is someone who has taken full advantage of every opportunity that has been put in front of him during his time at Ellsworth. He is someone who has taken his life choices, school work, and wrestling and been able to create the perfect blend and become a premier student-athlete."

Robertson is a native of Mesa, AZ.
