Williams, Barrows Provide 1-2 Punch as Panthers Win at Marshalltown

MARSHALLTOWN, IOWA -- Keara Williams and Ellie Barrows combined for 35 points, Ellsworth put together a strong second-half effort and the Panthers completed a season sweep of Marshalltown CC with a 63-49 victory at the Student Activity Center Tuesday.

The Panthers had snapped a long losing streak when they knocked off MCC earlier in the season and Tuesday's win, on the heels of a decision against Southeastern CC in the previous game, gave ECC back-to-back wins for the first time this year.  Their record is 3-7 heading into a home contest with Northeast (Neb.) Thursday.

Williams poured in a team-high 18 points and also grabbed seven rebounds and dished out four assists.  Barrows's outside shooting was a key to the ECC victory -- she made five 3s and tallied 17 points.  Hydiyah Robinson supplied eight points off the bench and Halle Miller led Ellsworth to a 36-32 advantage on the glass with nine rebounds, Miller's second straight game with nine boards.

Ellsworth did a great job of taking care of the basketball, committing a season-low seven turnovers.

Marshalltown ran out to an 18-12 lead after the first quarter, but the Panthers crept to within two points at intermission, trailing 27-25.  ECC outscored the Tigers, 18-11, in the third period to go ahead and then widened the gap in the final quarter when they had a 20-11 advantage.
