ECC will get one final opportunity to claim its first victory of the season when the team opens Region XI Tournament play Monday (March 2) versus Little Priest Tribal (3-25). The Panthers open tournament play as the nine seed following Saturday's 66-39 home loss to Iowa Lakes to conclude the regular season. The Panthers finished the regular season 0-29. The winner of Monday's 5:30 p.m. tournament opener will travel to Mason City to take on top ranked NIACC (29-1) on Wednesday (March 4).
Ellsworth Community College stayed close with Little Priest Tribal College in Iowa Falls on Wednesday, but a poor third quarter decided the Panthers fate and resulted in a 76-64 loss.
The Ellsworth Community College women’s basketball team hosted rivals Iowa Central Community College on Wednesday, Jan. 29 and dug themselves a hole early before falling 71-40.
After leading for much of the first quarter, Ellsworth Community College struggled from the free throw line in a 76-59 loss to North Platte Community College Friday night.

On Wednesday, the Panthers traveled to Boone to take on DMACC. It was a three-point game after the first 10 minutes. However, a bad second quarter by the visitors allowed the Bears to pull away for a 70-45 decision. Offensively, Danny Woodruff and Keara Williams led ECC with eight points. As a team, the Panthers shot just 26 percent and 12.9 percent from beyond the three-point line.
There have been some bright spots for the Ellsworth Community College women’s basketball team this week. The Panthers hosted Wartburg JV on Wednesday and Marshalltown Community College on Saturday. Though they lost both, they saw improvements in each game.
The Ellsworth Community College women played two games on the road last week. The Panthers lost 100-36 to Grand View University JV and 91-36 to Wartburg JV. ECC struggled offensively, shooting just 20 percent in Tuesday’s contest. Keara Williams led the team in scoring with 13 points and was the only player over double figures. Abby Arrowood led in rebounds with seven.
At the Dale Howard Classic in Iowa Falls, the Ellsworth Community College women lost 106-62 to Bryant and Stratton College (Wis). On Day two, they fell 79-62 to Grand View JV.
