ECC women fall to Kirkwood

The Ellsworth Community College women traveled to Cedar Rapids, IA to take on Kirkwood Community College on Wednesday, Jan. 27, eventually falling to the Eagles 61-34. The Panthers stuck with Kirkwood for three of the four quarters, but a scoring draught in the second quarter proved to much for the Panthers to overcome.

First quarter scoring saw ECC down only 2 points at 6-4. The second quarter the Eagles went on a 23-4 scoring run. ECC tried to fight back but the Panthers were unable to close the gap.

The Panthers were led in scoring by Antoinette Williams with 9 points. Other scoring for the Panthers included: Megan Marlette with six points; four points each for Chantelle Rumph, Janelle McCullough and Rebekah Hart; Olivia Barritt had three, and April Jones and Jade Brown each had two.

Brown led the team in rebounds with 10, followed by Williams with five rebounds. Barritt, Sydney See and Hart each and two rebounds, and Rumph, Marlette and Jones contributed one rebound.

"The low scoring in the second quarter just put us too far behind," commented ECC Head Basketball Coach Ed Geitz.

The Panthers will be at home for their next three games. They host Iowa Central on Saturday, Jan. 30, at 1 pm; North Central Missouri College on Monday, Feb. 1; and William Penn JV on Wednesday, Feb. 3. The Feb. 1 and Feb. 3 game tip-offs are at 5:30 pm.
