ECC women's basketball wins at home

The Ellsworth Community College women's basketball team pulled off an exciting win when it hosted Southeastern Community College on Saturday, Feb. 14. The two teams fought back and forth the entire game, but the final score was 61-57 in favor of the Panthers.

The entire first half was close, with both teams going back and forth until Ellsworth was able to maintain a steady yet close lead for most of it. ECC ended the first half with a 31-28 lead.

The second half was no different, with both teams exchanging baskets and lead changes in the very beginning. The Panthers were able to once again maintain a lead, although it always stayed in single digits. With less than 5 minutes to go, both teams continued to go basket for basket including multiple three pointers, but Southeastern was never able to close the gap. Ellsworth maintained its 4-point lead through the final few minutes of the game.

The Panthers were led by Keziah Lewis with 14 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists. Molly Greenfield had 12 points on 4 three-pointers, and Jordyn Lehman added 11 points and 6 rebounds. Chantelle Rumph and Ashley Gates also added 9 points each. SECC was held to just 34% shooting from the field overall.

ECC will be on the road for its next game against Kirkwood on Wednesday, Feb. 18, at 5:30 pm. The Panthers return home on Saturday, Feb. 21, to play NIACC with a 1 tip-off time.
