The Ellsworth Community College women's basketball team suffered two losses over the weekend. They hosted Iowa Central on Saturday, Jan. 10, losing by a margin of 80-61, followed by a 75-54 loss on Sunday to Wartburg JV.
The Panthers got off to a strong start in Saturday's first conference game, leading Iowa Central 38-34 at halftime. Iowa Central outscored Ellsworth 46 to 23 in the second half, finishing the game with the victory. ECC had four players score in double digits: Ashley Gates posted 14 points and 7 rebounds; Alivia Zubrod added 11 points and 7 rebounds, shooting 75% from three point range; Justice Thigpen had 11 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists; and Keziah Lewis added 10 points.
On Sunday the Panthers hosted Wartburg JV, a game which had been postponed from Jan. 6. Wartburg was able to capture a lead at the half and left with a 75-54 victory, shooting almost 40% from three point range as a team. ECC was led by Lewis with 12 points; Molly Greenfield with 9 points and 5 assists; and Jordyn Lehman added 8 points. ECC had only five turnovers as a team.
The Panthers will be on the road for their next game, traveling to Southeastern Community College on Saturday, Jan. 17, at 1 pm.
