Title: Assistant Men's Basketball Coach

Coach Brent Carmichael joined the ECC Men's Basketball coaching staff in fall 2018 as a Volunteer Assistant Coach.

Coach Carmichael comes to ECC with over 16 years of coaching high school boys’ basketball in Texas, Iowa and Illinois. In 1999, he, was the founder/director and coach of the Quad City Basketball Academy (QCBA). They have won two National Championships (one in the 8th grade division - 2003 and one in the High School division – 2005). During the six years of competition the QCBA was able to involve over 130 student/athletes from 14 different high schools in the Quad Cities Area. Twenty-five former QCBA athletes went on the play college sports in football, basketball or golf and two professionally (basketball & golf).

Coach Carmichael is a graduate (Liberal Arts) and former basketball player at the University of Northern Iowa (81-83). While at UNI, he was able to set the career steals record (180) in just two years. He was named to 1st team All-Conference (1982) and 2nd team All-Conference (1983). In 1983, he led the team in minutes played, assist (4.5), steals (3.0) and rebounds (4.9) and second in scoring (10.2) at 5’9 inches tall.

He still holds the Illinois state basketball tournament record for steals in one game (11), selected to the Western Big Six All Conference (East Moline), a school record for assist in one game (14). He was selected to the high schools Hall of Fame (individual - 2002) and team (2011). He was also named MVP (1979). He played Olney Central Community College (79 -81) where he won the sportsmanship award and All-Region. 

Coach Carmichael, was invited to the Atlanta Hawks Free Agent camp (1983), he played three years in the Southern California Summer Pro League, five years in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) in the Quad Cities, Rockford, LaCrosse and Cedar Rapids, and one year overseas in the Philippines and Guam. His last professional CBA Jersey (Rockford) was retired in 1992.

Coach Carmichael is the founder/director of a non-profit organization that helps families and communities affected by Autism Spectrum Disorders. He has over 2000 hours of volunteering in schools in Illinois, Iowa, Colorado and Texas.

He has one son with Autism that lives in Texas (32) and one son that lives in Colorado (19).
