Panther men take down #2 Kirkwood in OT

The Ellsworth Community College men's basketball team came to its Feb. 28 game against #2 Kirkwood read to play. The two teams went point for point during regulation, with both tallying 34 points in the first half and 35 point in the second half. It was all ECC in overtime, though, as the Panthers outscored Kirkwood 12-7 to take the 81-76 win.

ECC broke Kirkwood's 14-game winning streak and gave them their only loss in conference play for the year. The Eagles trailed by five points with 30 seconds left in regulation, but they forced overtime with a layup as just 3.5 seconds remained. Kirkwood scored the first basket in overtime, but ECC took over from there with 12-point run.

Panther LJ Harris led all scorers in the game with 27 points. He was 5 of 8 from three-point range and 10 of 12 at the freethrow line; he also had 9 rebounds. Harris was followed in scoring by LaVeechie Williams and Tristan Forsyth, who each had 16 points. Williams also led the Panthers in rebounding with 12.

ECC will finish the regular season when Iowa Central comes to campus on Saturday, March 3, at 3 pm.
