ECC vs Coffeyville

Ellsworth Community College fell 30-13 on the road at Coffeyville on Saturday.

The hosts built a 13-0 advantage before the Panthers got on the board. A big run by quarterback AJ Payne for 34 yards cut the deficit to seven (13-6). The point after try was blocked by Coffeyville and ran all the way back for two-points, making it a quick 15-6 swing.

Before the break, ECC cut the deficit yet again. This time, another run by Payne with 35 seconds left on the clock. Payne was the leading rusher for the Panthers with 103 yards on the ground. Heading into the break, ECC trailed 15-13.

Coming out of the second half, neither team found the end zone until 2:30 left in the third stanza. A third different hurler for Coffeyville scored, this time a 55 yard bomb from Edwin Kleinpeter to Tyquez Hampton. The Red Ravens added a final score late in fourth quarter and completed the two point conversion for the 30-13 final tally.

ECC had one of its better games on the ground this season, tallying 284 yards by six rushers. Payne had over 100 yards and Mychael Hamilton finished with 87.

Payne was also eight of 19 passing for 62 yards.

The Panthers have one more game left this season, a home contest against Independence Community College at 1 p.m.
