Three powerhouse players for the Ellsworth Community College football team will be moving on to continue their playing and academic careers after the Spring 2017 semester.
ECC's Tanis Joseph from Ft. Lauderdale, FL, has committed to play for DI the University of Memphis. Joseph started 11 games for the Panthers this past season. The 6'4" 290 pound offensive lineman was a force to be reckoned with on the field. He allowed zero sacks when he was on field. Joseph was also awarded 2016 Iowa Community College Athletic Association (ICCAC) 1st Team honors. After receiving several offers from DI schools, Joseph made his decision. "Memphis is a great school for my major, music production," says Joseph. "They also have a successful football program and I want to go somewhere to win. I had a great connection with the coaches there."
Joseph adds, "Ellsworth is a great school. If someone was looking to go JUCO I would recommend ECC. The greatest benefit of coming here for me is that I was able to get my work done."
Panther defensive lineman Louy Compton of Waterford, MI, has signed with DI Utah State. Compton had 60 tackles this season, with 46 of those being solo; he averaged 5 tackles per game. He also had 13.5 sacks and one fumble recovery. When selecting a transfer school, Compton said was looking for more than just a place to play football.
"The academic success rate at Utah State was one of the things that impressed me. It also felt more like family there than some of the other schools I visited. They cared about me as a person more than just a football player," commented Compton. On the football side of things Compton also liked what they had to say, "The last five years Utah has had four linebackers go to the NFL, and that's where I want to be. They also want me to play right away." When asked about his time at ECC he commented, "ECC is a smaller school, and with the coaches and teammates I had it was a great experience. They helped me change as a man."
Burlington, IA, native Broihson Turner has signed to play football at DII Missouri Western State University. Turner, a running back for the Panthers, had five rushes this season and averaged 2 yards per rush. He also had one touchdown. Turner was also looking for a place to meet both his academic and athletic needs.
