Panther football on a winning streak

The Ellsworth Community College football team took home another win this past weekend with a 23-20 victory over Hutchinson Community College. The Panthers are now on a three game winning streak and have a 4-3 record for the season.

Both teams were held scoreless in the first quarter, then the Panthers scored first in the second with a 26-yard pass from Lamont Toney to Jamarius Way. Hutchinson came back to score, but Ryan Guthrie blocked the kick for their extra point. The first half of the game ended with ECC kicker Justin Wright making a 31-yard field goal to take the Panthers into halftime only down 3.

ECC came out in the third quarter and scored with a 7-yard touchdown pass from Toney to Marcel Williams but did not convert on the extra point with ECC's kick being blocked. The fourth quarter saw a touchdown from each team; ECC scored on a 54-yard run by Tekendrick Roberson to end the game with the Panthers on top 23-20.

Roberson led ECC with 92-yards rushing and one touchdown. Way was leading receiver for the Panthers with 72-yards and one touchdown. ECC also had four interceptions for the game, two by Devon Russell and one each by Elijah Jones and Chris Miller.

Guthrie continues to lead the ECC defense with 18 total tackles this game (14 of those were solo). He also had one sack and two blocks. Lucas Depriest and Louy Compton also had a sack each 

The Panthers will be at home this coming weekend against Fort Scott Community College with kickoff at 1 pm.
