ECC falls short on the goal line

Ellsworth Community College Panther football kept Iowa Western on their toes the entire afternoon on Saturday, Sept. 26. The Panthers lost by just one touchdown, 21-14.

The Reivers' defense kept ECC from scoring until the 4th quarter. The Panther defense also held strong, only allowing Iowa Western to score one touchdown in the first quarter and one in the second quarter. The third quarter saw no scoring for either team.

ECC made it a game in the fourth quarter with a 14-yard touchdown pass from JuJuan Young-Battle to Jerry Jones, with a failed kick for the extra point. They made it even more interesting with a 30-yard pass from Young-Battle to Johnathan Boone for the touchdown, followed by a 2-point conversion pass to Isaiah. Narrowing the deficit to 7.

The Panthers offense had a chance to tie the game in the final seconds from the 2 yard line but failed to get into the end zone when Young-Battle fumbled on the goal line.

Ryan Guthrie led the Panther defense with 16 total tackles, 11 of those being solo.

ECC will host College of DuPage on Saturday, Oct. 3, with kickoff at 1 pm.
