ECC's strong defense helps get first football win

The Ellsworth Community College defense was a huge factor in the Panthers' gridiron win Saturday, Sept. 12, against Garden City. The Panthers controlled the game from the beginning, putting up 24 points in the first half with three touchdowns and two safeties while holding Garden City to one touchdown.

ECC defensive lineman Tyler Chaudoin had an amazing game with six tackles and four sacks; also, after blocking a punt, he ran the ball in for a touchdown.

The Panthers had three interceptions and recovered one of two Garden City fumbles. Dontrell Johnson and Royce Peterson each had six tackles for the night.

On the offensive side, quarterback Jujuan Young-Battle found Jaleel Scott and Isaiah Smith each for a touchdown. Young-Battle finished the game with 257 passing yards and 3 TD's while Xavier Washpun added 149 yards rushing.

The Panthers came out with a 38-14 victory for their first win of the season. ECC will be on the road again this week against Highland Community College in Kansas at 1 pm on Saturday, Sept. 19.
