ECC announces Academic All-Region honors

The Ellsworth Community College athletic department has been informed by the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) that 51 ECC student-athletes qualified for Academic All-Region honors. First Team honorees must have a grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 – 4.0, and Second Team honorees must have a 3.0 to 3.49 GPA.

The Panther men's basketball team qualified seven players for academic honors: First Team honorees are Darius Fuller of Cedar Rapids and Kalehl Brown of Waterloo. Bedipeny Worm of Des Moines; Justin McFadden of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Kalund Brown of Waterloo; Mark Kelly of Tauranga, New Zealand; and Yach Deng of Storm Lake were named to the Second Team.

The women's basketball team qualified nine players: First Team includes Alivia Zubrod of New Hartford; Ashley Gates of Lake City, MN; Justice Thigpen of Tampa, FL; Keziah Lewis of Hobsonville, New Zealand; and Leslie Birkenholz of Hopkins, MO. April Jones of Humboldt, Jordyn Lehman of Iowa City, Molly Greenfield of Williams, and Tijuana Weatherspoon of Pensacola, FL, were named to the Second Team.

Wrestling had eight Academic All-Region honorees: First Team includes Sadarriss Patterson of Schaumburg, IL. Second Team honorees are DeShun Brown of Albuquerque, NM; Jamarius Jackson of Orange Park, FL; Jimmyson Jeanite of West Palm Beach, FL; Robert Troye of Sterling, IL; Saidyokub Kakhramanov of Brooklyn, NY; Terry Martin of Oak Park, IL; and Wesley Petrick of Charlotte, NC.

Football qualified 19 players for the Academic All-Region team: First team includes DeQuan McDowell of Marshalltown; Joshua Kirk of Maquoketa; Kevin Rubin of Detroit, MI; and Tyrian Taylor of Orlando, FL. Second Team includes Alexander Caldwell of Clinton; Brayden McDaniel of Iowa Falls; Brian Steffensmeier of Dyersville; Cedric McCoy of Palatka, FL; Charles Messer of Story City; David Bessellieu of Clinton; Devon Calhoun of Ft. Myers, FL; Joseph Zimmerman of Reinbeck; Mitchell Weiland of Iowa City; Nolan Cook of Dubuque; Sylwester Augustyn of North Port, FL; Tyler Prunty of Cleghorn; and Zabreion Gunter of Baldwin, FL.

Eight Panther volleyball players earned Academic All-Region honors: First team includes Mary Goergen of Rochester, MN; Mary Jane Halder of Iowa Falls; and Paola Soto of Arecibo, Puerto Rico. Second Team honorees are Allison Kuennen of Lawler; April Jones of Humboldt; Cristina Negron of Camuy, Puerto Rico; Keisha Machado of Manati, Puerto Rico; and Madison Grabau of Kasson-Mantorville, MN.
